And you’ll want their take on life at The Avant and Palo Alto Commons. Here’s what some of our residents are saying.

First-class living is waiting for you here.
Imagine the perfect cruise ship – an expert staff, superb food, and a cabin that’s always clean and neat. This is The Avant, all year long. Now add about 50 happy, friendly folks just like you, and the picture is complete.

In less than a year at The Avant, my quality of life improved beyond expectations. The stress I used to feel being a primary caregiver is gone, along with the need to shop for groceries and deal with meal prep and clean-up. I can still cook if I want, but I have the option to enjoy everything The Avant has to offer. My days are filled with whatever I choose. That might be exercise, games, music, movies or heading out with friends. Palo Alto is just fine for walking or light shopping.

Whatever you might desire – a certain dish, a particular activity, or help in your apartment – is yours the moment you ask. The staff’s main goal is to make your life better, and do it with a smile. At The Avant, the only mistake you can make is “not asking.”

The Avant is perfect for me – and for my family.
When my husband passed away, I knew I needed to consider my future. I had heard such good things about The Avant. I liked the family-owned concept, and the fact that I didn’t have to put down a big deposit. I also love the small, intimate size of the community – the family atmosphere. Everyone cares about everyone else. I can’t imagine being any happier.

Here at The Avant, I can have a driver take me to appointments, and he’ll be waiting for me when I’m through. I won’t have to bother with driving or parking.

We have a great chef, and the food is comparable to a fine restaurant. When I go to breakfast, the staff knows exactly what I like and it’s there waiting for me. The apartments are beautiful, and if anything comes up that needs attention, there’s an on-site maintenance person to take care of it immediately. Everyone who lives and works here is just outstanding. My family is pleased and relieved that I’ve found such a wonderful place to live.

Everything I was looking for, and more.
I wanted independent living, fresh and new. I have to say, I like not having the responsibility of cooking and shopping. We have the best food anywhere. I did visit other communities and I tried the food, and this is the best. Our chef knows exactly what we want and how we like it. I love sitting with different people at dinner, because I always find fascinating people to talk to. All the people here are fabulous. I love finding out about their lives. Our community is like a family. That includes the wonderful people who work here. They know our names, and it’s clear they care. I’m impressed by how long they’ve all been here. I really am happy here. I just love The Avant.

Everything at The Avant enriches our lives.
Avant residents are warm, caring and a pleasure to have as neighbors. The food here is excellent, and the variety is fantastic. The staff is very accommodating. There’s always something interesting to do on site like book clubs, bridge or sitting in on a guest lecture. And there are lots of outings to the opera, ballet, concerts and museums. Having transportation service is also very helpful. We have wonderful exercise programs like yoga and swimming in the heated pool, too. For us, choosing The Avant was the right decision at the right time.

A new beginning.
After losing my beloved wife of 40 years, I had to start over. My son suggested Palo Alto Commons, and he was right. The community is well thought out – not too big or too small. The building is bright, clean and well-maintained. It all makes for a very pleasant environment. The staff is well trained and the food is good. They’re open to feedback, so you feel like you have a voice. I’m still active, and I appreciate all the activities available. I go to the Y three times a week, and to the Avenidas Senior Center too. I also enjoy the lectures on art and literature.

Gloria Steinem said, “Age is not lost youth, but a new stage of opportunity and strength.” I agree. I’m happy and comfortable here.

So much to love.
This community is filled with beautiful furniture and décor. There are lots of windows throughout the building with natural light everywhere and different viewpoints to enjoy. We have a lovely courtyard. My apartment is well lit with high ceilings – perfect to display my art. Palo Alto Commons is the only nice place I’ve found that rents month-to-month. I didn’t want to tie up my assets with a buy-in.

We’re located in the heart of everything. I enjoy classical music, and the community brings in wonderful musicians to entertain us. Our menu options consider the suggestions of residents, which is a great tribute to our dining services. The longevity of the staff was very important in my decision to move to Palo Alto Commons, and I’m impressed with how caring and attentive they are. You’re not just a number here. Even the Executive Director is receptive and welcomes feedback.

A good choice, right from the start.
Having built our home in 1949, it wasn’t easy for my husband and me to think about living anywhere else. But we needed a residence with wheelchair access, and when I toured Palo Alto Commons, the first apartment I saw was nice, light and airy, and I knew it was for us. There’s a lovely view of mountains and trees.

This is a friendly, caring place to live. The staff knows all the residents by name. We have assistance with transportation, and that’s a great help. I belong to the menu committee, and we work closely with the Director of Dining Services. So our opinions are heard, and we’re able to influence what is included on the menus. I do appreciate that.
